Wolff signs up Mercedes for season 2 of Netflix series!

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has revealed that his team will take part in the second season of the Netflix series 'Drive to Survive' after declining to appear in the acclaimed documentary's first season.

The Formula 1-produced first series which chronicled in multiple episodes the 2018 season received rave reviews from fans and the F1 community despite the prominent absence from the script of both Mercedes and Ferrari.

Grand Prix racing's front-running outfits justified their nonappearance by their fear they would be distracted by Netflix's production crews.

In Montreal, Wolff said that Mercedes would grant a fly-on-the-wall access to the series' filming crews at one race later this season.

Interestingly, the Austrian also revealed that he was not a fan of the docu-series after his first viewing, but the positive reviews enticed him to have another look.

"I watched it on my way to Australia and I didn't like it," said Wolff.

"I think it didn't reflect that was happening on track. But everybody who spoke to me, who was not a hardcore race fan, said they loved it!

"So I watched it again and I realised that it showed stories that on track don't exist. It's about the characters. It showed me a new angle to attract a new audience, different to how I perceive F1.

"This is why I decided to join and be part of Netflix 2019. But at only one race, and that will probably be Hockenheim. But I am not sure yet."

With Mercedes now onboard, it's likely Ferrari will follow suit.
