Scuderia Toro Rosso has requested a name change for 2020, the Red Bull junior squad planning to call itself AlphaTauri in the future.
The name change requires the approval of the F1 commercial right holder Liberty Media - likely a formality - and a favourable 'e-vote' from members of the F1 Commission, which includes the teams.
Teams are expected to cast their vote by next Thursday.
The purpose of the Faenza-based outfit's re-branding is to promote the AlphaTauri fashion line launched by Red Bull two years ago.
The Toro Rosso name appeared on the grid in 2006 when Red Bull co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz took over Minardi, thus extending the energy drink's presence in F1.
