DTM boss Gerhard Berger said Jenson Button has showed an interest in racing in the German series, but the Austrian has so far been unsuccessful in convincing the Briton to join the fray.
Button and Berger discussed a potential involvement of the 2009 F1 world champion in the DTM at Hockenheim last year, when Button raced a Super GT Honda in the series finale.
"I spoke to Jenson Button in Hockenheim," Berger told Motorsport-Total.com. "He said he would like to drive DTM.
"In the discussions that followed, I felt that he would like to continue living in LA."
Indeed, the former McLaren driver now resides in sunny California, in Los Angeles, with fiancée Brittny Ward and their young son Hendrix.
But Berger made clear to that any involvement from would require a full commitment, implying that he would perhaps be forced to leave L.A.
"The DTM is tough and absolutely top level. To be successful, you have to live in Europe and have to be in contact with the team every day. I don’t know if he is ready.
"As a guy, I would have loved to see him in the DTM," Berger added.
"I like him and think a lot of him, but I think he is now in a phase of life in which you develop other interests."
