Strained Hamilton working on himself 'emotionally'

Lewis Hamilton has reached out to his fans on social media, insisting they aren't alone in these challenging times of confinement.

Hamilton remained in Melbourne after the cancellation of the Australian Grand Prix, the opening round of the 2020 F1 world championship.

The Mercedes driver self-confined Down Under for two weeks after it was revealed that he had come into contact at an event earlier this month in London with two individuals that had tested positive for COVID-19, including Hollywood actor Idris Elba.

On Sunday, the six-time world champion published a post on Twitter and Instagram in which he expressed his current frame of mind amid the world's struggle with the coronavirus pandemic, underscoring the "mental strain" that weighs on individuals.

"Through this tough time, I hope and pray you are all safe at home with your families or somewhere you feel safe," he wrote.

"I am taking this time to work on myself, physically but emotionally too. The mental strain that this can bare on us all can be intense but just know you are not alone.

"We are all in this together. We should all take time to enjoy what we have and the people in our lives.

"I know I’m not on here a lot but I think of you all out there in the world and want you to know I am grateful for your support and love always. I’m sending you positivity from afar 🙏🏾"
