Robert Wickens joins IndyCar's Esports action!

Robert Wickens will make his sim racing debut on Saturday, joining the grid for the second round of IndyCar's iRacing Challenge that will take place at Barber Motorsport Park.

Wickens, whose career was brutally interrupted after a massive crash at Pocono in 2018 left him partially paraplegic, will take part in the sim event thanks to a specially adapated simulator featuring throttle and brake hand controls.

The Canadian will race under the banner of Arrow McLaren SP alongside regular drivers Patricio O'Ward and Oliver Askew.

Saturday's event will also see IndyCar stars Scott Dixon and Ed Carpenter join the fray, respectively for Ganassi and ECR, while James Hincliffe hopes to finally kick off his sim career with Andretti Autosport after a systems crash threw him offline last weekend.

In total, the rolling grid is scheduled to feature 29 pro racers, including last weekend's top 3, Sage karam, Felix Rosenqvist and Will Power.

The action will kick off at 7:30pm UK (2:30pm EST - 8:30pm CET) and will be streamed live on NBCSN and on IndyCar.com.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
