Villeneuve joins upcoming Legends Trophy event

Jacques Villeneuve will apply his talent to the virtual world this weekend when he lines up on the grid of The Race Legends Trophy.

The 1997 F1 world champion, who celebrates his 49th birthday today, will battle his former BAR F1 teammate Jenson Button and a group of distinguished motorsport and Grand Prix veterans in the series third installment.

The event will take place at a yet to be named virtual venue, but drivers will race onboards identically set up McLaren M23s.

Villeneuve's last real-life experience behind the wheel of a racing car was in last year's NASCAR Whelen Euroseries.

Three-time Indycar winner Dario Franchitti prevailed in the inaugural Legends Trophy round while ex-F1 driver Jan Magnussen won last weekend's event.

Check back on Saturday morning for a full schedule of this weekend's Esports events.
