Racing Point warms up 2020 car with filming day at Silverstone

Racing Point became the first team on Wednesday to roll out its 2020 contender since pre-season testing, the pink outfit warming up its RP20 and crews at Silverstone in preparation for the season-opening Austrian GP.

The team was allowed to run its current-spec car in the context of a filming day, with Stroll driving the allocated 100 km Silverstone's shorter national circuit.

The Canadian took to the track early in the day to sidestep poor weather that hit the area in the afternoon.

Mercedes and Renault also geared up for the season, albeit with 2018 machines. The German outfit tested last week at Silverstone while the French team concluded on Wednesday a two-day test at the Red Bull Ring with Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon.

Ferrari is also expected to roll out a 2018 car at Fiorano before it heads to Austria while Scuderia AlphaTauri will undertake an authorized filming day at Imola.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
