Monza confirms fans won't be allowed at Italian Grand Prix

Monza has confirmed that next September's Italian Grand Prix will take place behind closed gates, with no fans allowed in the grandstands.

The decision by the Italian event's promoter is consistent with the current policy regarding attendance as implemented by race organisers and dictated by safety measures associated with the global COVID-19 crisis.

Following the opening three rounds of the 2020 world championship, which all took place without spectators, Formula 1 has confirmed ten more events.

While rounds 11, 12 and 13 at the Nürburgring, Portimão and Imola may allow a limited number of spectators, no fans will attend the upcoming seven races, staring with this weekend's British Grand Prix.

"The 2020 Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza from 4-6 September will take place behind closed doors, i.e. without spectators," Monza said in a statement released on Wednesday.

"Tickets already purchased will be refunded for the full value of the face price shown on them."

Needless to say, an Italian Grand Prix void of its amazing crowds and contingent of flamboyant Tifosi will be a muted affair, while Ferrari will be missing a key component of the local forces that spurs on the Scuderia in its home race.
