Renault lodges third protest against Racing Point's RP20

Another race, another protest for Renault which has lodged its third complaint of the 2020 season against midfield rival Racing Point.

The French team has targeted Racing Point's RP20 and more specifically the latter's brake ducts in order for the FIA to rule once and for all on the legality of the Mercedes-copied car.

Renault filed a protest with the stewards after the Styrian and Hungarian Grands Prix and did so again after Sunday's British Grand Prix, although it only singled out Lance Stroll's car as Nico Hulkenberg did not start the race following a power unit issue.

The team has built its case against its midfield rival and the FIA is set to rule on its findings on Wednesday, ahead of the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone.

However, Racing Point technical director Andy Green believes he's countered Renault's grievances with a water-tight defence.

"We've been working on it the last couple of weeks," said Green. "Some documents went to the FIA at the weekend, and then our defence went to the stewards a couple of days ago.

"The lawyers have been working on it intensely over the last week or so.

"We think that it should be dismissed. I think the regulations are quite clear. And we've made that case quite clear, how the regulations are.

"We can see that we've done everything within the regulations. So we don't think there's a case to answer."
