Sir Frank Williams admitted to hospital - currently in stable condition

Legendary F1 team owner Sir Frank Williams is in stable condition after being admitted to hospital, his family has announced.

The Williams released a statement on Tuesday but did not disclose the reason for Sir Frank's hospitalization.

"Sir Frank Williams has recently been admitted to hospital where he is currently in a stable condition," read the family's statement.

"Frank’s medical condition is a private matter and therefore the family will not be releasing any further details at this time.

"We ask for you to respect the family’s privacy. The team will release a further update in due course. Thank you."

The 78-year-old, who celebrated 50 years of team ownership in F1 in 2019, relinquished last summer the reins of Grand Prix racing's third most successful team after US investment firm Dorilton Capital acquired the Williams family's stake.

In the wake of the sale, Claire Williams stepped down as the Grove-based outfit's deputy team principal, a role she had fulfilled since March 2013.

Sir Frank stopped traveling to F1's races in 2016 after suffering a case of pneumonia, but the racer never refrained from making the trip to Silverstone each year to visit his team during the British GP weekend.
