Alpine team reveals launch date of 2021 charger

Alpine will reveal to the world its first F1 car under its rebranded identity - the A521 - in an online presentation scheduled for March 2.

And it looks like the French outfit is looking to upstage the championship winning Mercedes team which will also pull the covers off its 2021 car on the same day.

Alpine's new A521 will be entrusted to 24-year-old Esteban Ocon and 39-year-old F1 returnee Fernando Alonso.

The Spaniard returns to the fray after a two-year hiatus from F1 but the two-time world champion's preparations were suddenly interrupted last Thursday following a cycling crash in which Alonso suffered a fractured jaw and a few broken teeth.

Alonso underwent surgery in Bern but has since returned home to continue his recovery. Both team and driver have said that the 32-time Grand Prix winner will be fully operational for the start of pre-season testing in Bahrain on March 12.

In addition to Alonso's return to Enstone, Alpine has undergone a significant management change, with former Renault F1 boss Cyril Abiteboul leaving F1, while the French outfit's day to day running has been entrusted to former Suzuki MotoGP boss Davide Brivio who will answer directly to new Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi.
