Aston Martin set to announce 'senior team member' hiring

Aston Martin will announce this week another prominent hiring for its technical department according to team owner Lawrence Stroll.

The Silverstone-based outfit has poached several high-profile figures from rival teams recently, hiring longtime Red Bull aerodynamicist Dan Fallows as its future technical director and his colleague Andrew Alessi as the outfit's head of technical operations.

Aston Martin is also set to bring onboard Alfa Romeo man Luca Furbatto as its new engineering director.

And Stroll insists there will be no letting up on the recruitment front as his team works to double its workforce and build a top-notch technical department that will help Aston Martin fulfill its ambition of becoming a championship winning outfit in F1 in the future.

"We are hiring brilliant new senior technical and engineering talent all the time and the result will be a technical and engineering strength in the company equal to, if not better than, any other Formula 1 team," Stroll told members of the media on Thursday.

"We announce pretty much almost on a weekly basis now the hiring of brilliant new senior technical and engineering talent.

"This week we’ll be announcing another very senior member of another team joining us."

While Aston Martin plans to boost its staff to approximately 800 people, the Canadian billionaire made clear that the drive was about quality, not quantity.

"We currently have approximately 500 employees," said Stroll. "When I took over Force India we had approximately 400, we’ve grown by about 100. And it’s not just quantity, it’s quality.

“In Formula 1 it takes time to get people: contracts, garden leaves, et cetera. But in the near term, we plan to push that number to approximately 800 people."

Finally, Stroll dismissed rumors that he was searching for a new chief executive to replace current boss and team principal Otmar Szafnauer who has been among the team's top brass since joining Force India in 2009.

"We have not been looking for a new CEO to run the team," added Stroll. "We are looking for just about every other position, in terms of going from the 500 people we currently have to the 800 people.

"But we will always be looking to strengthen anywhere that we can. And we’re getting a tremendous amount of people applying for positions. We never had this luxury before we became Aston Martin."
