Lotterer and Wehrlein stay at Porsche for 2021/22

Porsche has announced that Andre Lotterer and Pascal Wehrlein will continue to drive for the team in the ABB FIA Formula E series next season.

Lotterer has been with the team since the 2019/2020 campaign after an initial stint with DS Techeetah. The 39-year-old was crowned FIA World Endurance champion in 2012, and is a three-time winner of the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours.

Wehrlein was the 2015 DTM champion before moving to Formula 1 with Manor Racing and then Sauber. He made his Formula E debut with Mahindra in 2018 before joining Porsche the following season.

“We’ve made enormous progress as a team this season,” said Amiel Lindesay, head of operations Formula E.

“Andre and Pascal have made a significant contribution to this positive development. We’re pleased that we are continuing our successful path together in Season 8.”

Although he's yet to win an E-Prix, Lotterer has been runner-up on six occasions in 49 starts to date. “Despite some notable successes this season, we are yet to achieve all of our goals," he acknowledged.

"That makes me all the more pleased that Porsche is giving me the chance to contribute to the further development of the team beyond the current season.

Wehrlein was also pleased to be able to extend his partnership with Lotterer into the new season. “As a newcomer to the team, I felt very welcome and comfortable from the get-go.

"We achieved a lot in our first season together and have firmly established ourselves in Formula E. I’m very happy that I can be a part of this great team in the future.”

The current season reaches a climx this weekend with a double-header in Berlin to decide the driver and team titles.

It's the final race in the championship for Audi and BMW which have both announced they are ending their involvement in the all-electric world championship.

Audi are tipped to be working on a program to take them into Formula 1.

Former series champion Lucas di Grassi - who was controversially stripped of victory in the second London E-Prix last month - is tipped to move to Venturi in place of current rookie driver Norman Nato next season.

The 2021/22 Formula E season will get underway with a Saudi Arabia doubleheader in Diriyah on January 28/29 next year.
