Sergio Perez's Belgian Grand Prix was over before it started as the result of the Red Bull driver crashing on his way to the grid.
The Mexican, who was due to start P7, was caught out by the poor conditions went he went into Les Combes, losing control between the two corners of the complex and clouting the barrier.
Unfortunately, the significant damage suffered by the RB16B upon the impact and Perez's inability to extract his car from the barrier meant that the Red Bull would be a non-starter at Spa.
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said the incident was unfortunate but would have no impact on Max Verstappen's race.
The conditions and poor visibility for drivers produced by the spray imply decided the race direction to start the event behind the Safety Car.
But opportunities are sure to open up for many drivers as well as for the teams' strategists.
Update: The race's extended weather delay has allowed Red Bull to repair Perez's car. The Mexican will therefore start the Belgian Grand Prix from the pitlane.
