As expected, Lewis Hamilton was handed a mere reprimand for failing to follow the correct rejoining procedure when running off track at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez's Turn 1.

Hamilton had run starting on across the grass in the early part of FP1, but rejoined the track without running around the bollard located on the left-hand side as the race director's instructions require.

"Car 44 left the track on the left hand-side between Turns 1 and 2 and re-joined the track between Turns 2 and 3, rather than re-joining by driving to the left-hand side of the bollard at Turn 3," stated the FIA's bulletin.

"Whilst noting the driver's comments in relation to track conditions and his attempt to steer to the left after leaving the track, the Stewards consider this to be a failure to follow the Race Director's instruction given in article 21.1a) of the Race Director's Event Notes."

Hamilton's subsequent reprimand is his first of the 2021 season.

The Mercedes driver wasn't alone in the stewards' office as he was joined by Alfa Romeo's Kimi Raikkonen who was also handed a reprimand for the exact same offence.
