Fabiana Ecclestone elected FIA vice-president for Sport!

There is a familiar name on the FIA's Presidential List that was published on Friday in the wake of the election of Mohammed Ben Sulayem at the helm of motorsport's governing body.

The FIA's new organigramme features seven new Vice-Presidents for Sport, each of which has been assigned a region, with Fabiana Ecclestone, the 44-year-old wife of former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, overseeing South America.

Ecclestone and Fabiana Flosi met in 2009 when she was working in the marketing department of the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos, and the couple were married three years later in 2012, and are now the proud parents of Ace, born in 2020.

They spend most of their between between Switzerland and Brazil, where the 91-year-old owns a vast ranch in the municipality of Amparo, some 90 miles from the city of Sao Paulo.

The property includes a coffee plantation that is managed by Fabiana and which produces a product that is marketed under the label 'Celebrity Coffee'.

While perhaps honorary and relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things, Fabiana Ecclestone's election as a regional FIA vice-president is still likely to raise a few eyebrows among the fans.

The nomination comes at a time when motorsport's venerable institution is fighting a wave of criticism - including from reigning world champions Mercedes - sparked by the controversial events that marked the final round of the F1 world championship in Abu Dhabi.

The FIA's integrity and competence has been called into question and has left newly elected president Sulayem with work to do to re-establish the trustworthiness of its officials working on the F1 front.
