Ocon ruled out of Miami GP qualifying following FP3 crash

Esteban Ocon will not take part in qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix, as Alpine's crews were unable to repair in time the damage sustained by the Frenchman's car in FP3.

Ocon hit the wall at Turn 14 at the start of the final practice session, an incident that mirrored the mishap suffered by Ferrari's Carlos Sainz on Friday.

"We can confirm that sadly Esteban won’t be taking part in qualifying this afternoon," Alpine’s tweeted.

"His chassis was cracked in the impact with the barrier and cannot be changed in time. Esteban is physically fine and will race tomorrow."

He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
