Ferrari reveals chassis designation for 2023 car

Ferrari has officially revealed the codification of its 2023 car that the Scuderia will unveil next week on February 14.

After last year's F1-75 celebrated Ferrari's 75th anniversary, the Italian outfit has reverted to using the abbreviated Scuderia Ferrari 'SF' designation. The team's new machine has therefore been named the SF-23.

On the sporting front, Ferrari heads into the 2023 season with Frédéric Vasseur at the helm, the Frenchman taking over from Mattia Binotto who resigned from the Scuderia at the end of last season.

As last year, Ferrari hopes to hit the ground running in Bahrain next month, but contrary to last season's campaign, the team will be looking to uphold its momentum throughout the year and take the title fight down to the wire against Red Bull and Mercedes.

Ferrari engineers have worked hard since last season to improve the performance but more importantly the reliability of the Italian outfit's power unit after the string of failures encountered in 2022, not only by the works outfit but also by customer teams Alfa Romeo and Haas.

Rumors emerged earlier this year in the Italian media that Ferrari's engineers had extracted as much as an additional 30bhp from their power unit.

But Vasseur was quick to laugh off the reports.

"I don’t know where the numbers are coming from but it is just a joke!" he said. "We made some steps, but it is just about reliability. I think the performance of the engine was not an issue at all.

"The issue was the reliability, and the first target is to fix it. So far it looks okay, but the reality on the track is a different aspect."
