Red Bull Racing's chief technical officer Adrian Newey has agreed to an extension of his contract with the Milton Keynes-based outfit, according to a report from Motorsport.com.

Newey's current contract with Red Bull expires at the end of 2023, which led to speculation about the legendary designer's future, but the extension now puts to rest the conjecture.

"Adrian has been such a fundamental part since almost the beginning," Horner told Motorsport.com.

"He covers a lot of areas and, to have the depth of his experience and knowledge to draw upon, and the way he works with the young guys, it's great.

"He's just as motivated as he always been. Obviously, he has a great interest in what's going on in Powertrains, and Red Bull Advanced Technology as well. So, he covers the three pillars of the campus in Milton Keynes."

Newey oversees Red Bull's engineering department, working in collaboration with technical director Pierre Wache and Red Bull Powertrains chief Ben Hodgkinson.

Red Bull is in the midst of a dominant season, with Sergio Perez upholding last weekend in Baku his team's 100 per cent track record after four races which augurs well for the remainder of its campaign.

Red Bull's current engine supply deal with Honda will run until the end of 2025, after which Red Bull Powertrains' partnership with Ford will take over.

According to Horner, the prospect of Red Bull having entire control over its chassis/engine combo from 2026 is another source of motivation for Newey.

"Adrian is a very competent engineer regarding all things to do with combustion," said Horner. "You can see that he's fully bought into the concept and sees the potential that it really brings longer term."
