McLaren rolls out 'Triple Crown' livery for Monaco GP

McLaren will once again pay tribute to its rich heritage in Monaco this year, the Woking-based outfit rolling out its MCL 60 in the Principality next weekend with a special Triple Crown dedicated livery.

The blend of papaya, white and black that will adorn its contender takes its inspiration from McLaren's historical wins in the three events that constitute motorsport's Triple Crown: the Indy 500, the Monaco Grand Prix and the Le Mans 24 Hours.

More specifically, the elements of its tri-color scheme are an homage to Johnny Rutherford's win with McLaren at the Speedway in 1974, to Alain Prost's victory in Monaco in 1984 and to the manufacturer's triumph with its McLaren F1 GTR at Le Mans in 1995.

McLaren boasts an impressive track record in Monte-Carlo with 15 victories recorded since 1984, making the team the most decorated at one of motorsport’s most iconic events.

"Having achieved the greatest accomplishment in motorsport by completing the Triple Crown, we are proud to celebrate the rich history of McLaren Racing with a special livery at the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix," commented McLaren Racing boss Zak Brown.

"In line with our 60th anniversary celebrations and honouring the legacy of Bruce McLaren, the unique livery pays homage to the three victories which form the Triple Crown accolade."

McLaren boss discourages 'dreamers' from entering Formula 1

Besides McLaren as a team, motorsport legend Graham Hill is the only driver in history to have won the Triple Crown.

"It’s a privilege to be involved in McLaren Racing’s 60th anniversary celebrations and to combine three iconic race winning McLaren liveries into one for the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix is going to be a special moment for the whole team," added Lando Norris.

“McLaren have an impressive record in Monte Carlo and on a personal level to have experienced a podium at the 2021 race was a huge honour.

"We’ll be racing hard in a great looking car to celebrate Bruce McLaren and the team’s amazing legacy."

Proud F1 rookie Oscar Piastri loves the blend of history and aesthetics on his MCL60 contender.

"The Triple Crown livery looks incredible, and I can’t imagine a better way to experience my first Monaco Grand Prix as a Formula 1 Driver with McLaren Racing," he said.

"Bruce McLaren was a winner in Monte Carlo in 1962 and the McLaren team have such rich history at the Monaco Grand Prix.

"I will feel incredibly proud lining up on the grid in the MCL60, carrying the same colours as the three Triple Crown winning race cars."

McLaren will also run its Triple Crown livery at next week's Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

The team will also be in action at Indianapolis next Sunday with four cars vying for a win in the 107th running of the Indy 500.
