Domenicali on 11th F1 team: 'I'm not changing my mind'

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali remains steadfast in his belief that the sport does not require an 11th team on the grid, aligning himself with the majority of teams who share the same perspective.

The FIA is currently in the process of reviewing the 'Expression of Interest' applications filed by potential new F1 entrants, including Andretti-Cadillac whose efforts have received the public support of the governing body's president Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

F1 teams are reluctant to welcome a new outfit into the sport as its presence would dilute the latter's all-important prize money fund that is shared by the teams.

Domenciali insists a newcomer would have to add value to F1 and that adding an 11th team is "right for the business".

"On that, I'm not changing my mind," Domenicali said , quoted by Motorsport.com.

"It's not the money, as we have said, and I don't want to anticipate anything because there is a process and I think that I have respect the fact the FIA launched their process, and very soon we will arrive at the conclusion.

"As we always said, we need to make sure that the decision is right for the business. And this is what I think is the duty of the FIA and us together, that has to be taken.

"So that is another decision that will be taken in the next couple of months."

Regarding Andretti-Cadillac, a project supported by General Motors, Domenicali was reluctant to comment on the potential benefits the American outfit might bring to the grid.

"There are positives and negatives, that's part of the evaluation that we're doing," he said. "So I cannot spoil or anticipate anything.

"We are doing things very seriously and correctly. So as soon as we will be ready for that discussion we're going to inform, as a discussion we're going to take it with the FIA together."

Michael Andretti has indicated that he expects to receive the FIA's review on his team's candidature in the coming weeks.
