McLaren F1 hires Stephanie Carlin as Business Operations Director

McLaren has announced that Stephanie Carlin will assume the role of Formula 1 Business Operations Director for the team starting next year.

Carlin serves as the Team Principal for Rodin Carlin's Formula 3 and F1 Academy Teams, and holds a similar position at Lewis Hamilton’s Extreme E Team X44 outfit.

McLaren says that Carlin will be responsible for overseeing various activities in support of McLaren's F1 operations.

Additionally, she will play a key role in McLaren's participation in the 2024 F1 Academy season.

Carlin's tenure in this new role is set to commence in January, and she will report directly to McLaren F1 Team Principal Andrea Stella.

Well-versed in international motor racing, Carlin has an extensive background across various championships and has transitioned into senior management.

Originating her career in press and marketing, Carlin assumed the role of Commercial Manager at Carlin in 2011 under the leadership of her husband, team owner Trevor Carlin.

Over the years, she progressed to the position of Overall Deputy Team Principal in May 2022, with specific responsibilities for managing the team's endeavors across multiple series.

Carlin's move to McLaren aligns with the F1 squad's ambition to capitalize on the positive momentum gained at the conclusion of the 2023 F1 season.

Despite a challenging start to its campaign, McLaren’s multi-stage development programme propelled team papaya up the grid, elevating it to the second-best scoring outfit in the second half of the season and to P4 in F1’s final Constructors’ standings.

Carlin’s association with McLaren sees the name tie-up once again with Lando Norris who raced for the highly successful British outfit during his formative years in the sport.

Norris conquered the FIA Formula 3 European Championship with Carlin in 2017, and finished second behind George Russell in the 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship.

Since its founding in 1996 by Trevor Carlin and Martin Stone, Carlin has secured an impressive record of victories and titles across a spectrum of international championships including F4, F3, F2, Indy Lights, IndyCar, ELMS, and the Asian Le Mans Series.

As a veritable powerhouse among the junior ranks of motorsport, the team has also played a pivotal role in fostering the careers of over 30 drivers who successfully transitioned to F1, including, among many, others Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg, Daniel Ricciardo, George Russell and Carlos Sainz.
