Aston Martin is in the market for a top technical director and is reportedly courting Ferrari’s Enrico Cardile, a key figure within the Scuderia’s technical structure.
As Ferrari’s current technical director for chassis and aerodynamics, Cardile has been instrumental in developing the Italian outfit’s recent race-winning SF-24 and his success has clearly captured the attention of rival teams.
In pursuit of its goal of becoming a championship contender, Aston Martin initially set their sights on Red Bull's Adrian Newey, the legendary chief technical officer who recently announced his departure from the Milton Keynes-based outfit.
Team owner Lawrence Stroll is rumored to have made a personal attempt to lure Newey to Silverstone with a very lucrative offer.
But it is believed the design guru is considering a move to Ferrari instead, which has prompted Aston to explore alternative options.
Newey's potential arrival at Ferrari, even in a super consultant role, could overshadow the contributions of existing personnel like Cardile who might be enticed to accept Aston’s offer to lead its technical structure.
But Newey is seemingly in no rush to decide his next move, leaving both Aston Martin and Ferrari waiting anxiously.
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur maintains a tight hold on information regarding their potential interest in Newey, which adds to the overall intrigue surrounding the situation.
In a conversation with Italian media this week, Vasseur emphasized his primary focus on preserving the stability of his current technical team.
He was also asked directly if he had engaged with Newey.
“I speak to everybody in the paddock when we meet, because we are well educated! On this point, I don't want to make any comment because every single answer could be interpreted,” he said.
“The most important [thing] is the stability of the team. As I said before, we are doing a good job. We are going in the right direction.
“The most important for me is the stability of the group much more than individuals. I am really pleased with the current situation.”
