Sargeant set for IndyCar test with Mayer Shank

Former Williams F1 driver Logan Sargeant will get his first taste of IndyCar thanks to Meyer Shank Racing which is scheduled to give the American a run in one of its cars at The Thermal Club in California.

Sargeant will take part in the team’s final evaluation test day on November 19 at the exclusive 3.067-mile road course that will join IndyCar’s official calendar next season, according to a report from RACER.

The 23-year-old former Williams driver, who was replaced earlier this month at the Italian Grand Prix by Franco Colapinto for the remainder of the F1 season, has been actively seeking an opportunity to race in the NTT IndyCar series.

Sargeant, who became the first American to compete in F1 full-time in over a decade, joined Williams in 2023. Despite a challenging maiden season among motorsport‘s elite, the young charger from Fort Lauderdale was handed a second campaign with the Grove-based outfit.

However, a lack of consistency and several costly crashes compelled Williams to part ways with Sargeant whose successor, Colapinto, has performed exceptionally well in his first three races with the British outfit.

The efforts by Sargeant’s management to put a foot in the door of IndyCar have been productive, with the driver meeting with several teams at the series recent finale at Nashville Speedway, with MSR offering an opportunity to sample one of its Honda-powered Dallara DW12s.

As RACER notes, the test at The Thermal Club will be MSR’s first road course session since forming a new technical alliance with Chip Ganassi Racing.

Under this partnership, Ganassi will provide MSR with engineering support, dampers, and chassis setups. The collaboration is designed to bolster MSR’s competitiveness in the series, and Sargeant’s test will be the first time the alliance is put to work on a road course.

For Sargeant, next month’s run will be a crucial opportunity to showcase his talent in a different racing discipline.

Although neither MSR - who will field Felix Rosenqvist and Marcus Armstrong in 2025 - nor Ganassi have any open seats for the 2025 IndyCar season, the test could attract the attention of other IndyCar teams looking to evaluate new talent.

The young American’s entry into IndyCar could reignite his career and provide a fresh start in a series known for its close competition and diverse range of tracks.
