The Mexico City Grand Prix is here to stay, with Formula 1 confirming on Wednesday – as widely anticipated – a three-year extension that will keep the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez roaring through 2028.
The new deal ensures that the vibrant Mexican capital will continue to host one of the most electrifying events on the F1 calendar, blending thrilling on-track action with the cultural splendor of Mexico City.
For fans, teams, and drivers, the event has always been more than a race – it’s a phenomenon, and its near-term future is now secure.
Since its return to the F1 calendar in 2015, the Mexico City Grand Prix has grown into a jewel of the sport, attracting sell-out crowds and global acclaim.
In 2024, a record 405,000 fans attended the weekend, a testament to the event’s ever-growing popularity.
The race is renowned not only for its electric atmosphere – featuring Day of the Dead celebrations and world-class live music – but also for the striking spectacle of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, which includes the colorful Estadio stadium section.
Formula 1 President & CEO Stefano Domenicali praised the event's extraordinary success and significance:
“We are very excited to announce that the Mexico City Grand Prix will continue to be part of our calendar until 2028,” he said.
“Formula 1 is energy, passion and emotion, and every year the unique atmosphere created by our fans in Mexico City is one of the most incredible and energetic experiences of our championship.

The driving force behind the Grand Prix’s continued presence in Formula 1, Alejandro Soberón Kuri, President and CEO of CIE, celebrated the announcement as a significant win for both Mexico City and the wider motorsport world.
“We are very excited to announce that the Mexico GP will be held for three more years. We are deeply grateful for the invaluable support of the Government of Mexico City, from the Head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, to our President, Claudia Sheinbaum, as well as Stefano Domenicali from Formula 1, who have made it possible to continue bringing Formula 1 to our country.
“This not only contributes to the economic development of Mexico City, but also promotes our city, as well as our country, in a significant way worldwide.
“Together, we will continue to work hard to ensure that fans get the most out of an event that offers a unique live entertainment experience, and which for almost 10 years has shown the world the quality of the events we organise in this city.”
Located at over 2,200 metres above sea level, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit offers a unique challenge to drivers and engineers alike, with thinner air impacting engine performance, cooling, and aerodynamics.
Despite those challenges, the atmosphere and setting remain unmatched – an enduring testament to Mexico's deep passion for Formula 1.
