Formula 1 extends Montreal’s spot on calendar through 2035

Formula 1 has confirmed a four-year extension with the Canadian Grand Prix, ensuring that the Montreal race will remain on the sport’s global calendar until at least 2035.

The announcement solidifies the event’s status as one of the most popular stops on the F1 schedule and reflects its enduring success with fans, drivers, and stakeholders alike.

This new agreement was struck between F1, the Octane Racing Group, and various levels of Canadian government including Canada Economic Development for Québec Regions, the Government of Québec, Tourism Montréal, and the City of Montréal.

The Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve has hosted the Grand Prix since 1978 and celebrated its 54th edition last weekend. The new deal also includes a long-term extension of Bell Media’s broadcasting rights, reinforcing the race’s national importance.

Domenicali: “Unforgettable Moments Still to Come in Montréal”

As F1 continues to expand globally, CEO Stefano Domenicali celebrated the historic renewal.

“As Formula 1 celebrates its 75th anniversary, it is fitting that we have announced an extension with the Canadian Grand Prix, a race that has such incredible history in our sport and is named after a true legend in Gilles Villeneuve.

"Montreal is an incredible city, full of energy and passionate fans, and I am delighted to confirm that we will continue racing here through to the 2035 season and that our media rights deal with Bell Media is also extending in the long term.

"I would like to thank the promoter, Octane Racing Group, for their continued efforts in upgrading this iconic venue in recent years, and all local, regional, and national political stakeholders who have worked closely together to make this event what it is today.

"I would also like to thank our incredible Canadian fans, I look forward to creating more unforgettable moments in Montréal with you over the next 10 years.”

Recent years have seen significant investment in the infrastructure of the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve to meet the rising demands of a rapidly evolving sport. In a further step toward sustainability and efficiency, stakeholders have also agreed to move the race to an earlier slot in the F1 calendar starting in 2026.

Canadian Leaders Praise Economic and Cultural Impact

The announcement was accompanied by a joint statement from Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante, Québec Minister of Tourism Caroline Proulx, Parliamentary Secretary Carlos Leitão, Tourisme Montréal CEO Yves Lalumière, and Véronique Doucet, General Manager of Société du parc Jean-Drapeau. They emphasized the event’s significance to the nation:

“We are proud to renew this important multistakeholder partnership with Formula One World Championship (FOWC).

"The Canadian Grand Prix is not only the biggest event in the country, it is also one of the most appreciated in the world. It makes our city vibrate and shine on the international scene, while generating significant economic benefits for Canadian businesses and citizens.

"This announcement is a concrete expression of our shared commitment to further develop the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix and ensure its unrivalled success for years to come.”

With the agreement now in place, fans can look forward to at least another decade of high-speed drama, overtakes, and the roar of engines on the Ile Notre-Dame, as one of Formula 1’s most cherished venues races into its seventh decade.
