Ticktum claims maiden Formula E win in chaotic Jakarta E-Prix

British driver Dan Ticktum clinched his first-ever Formula E win on Saturday, topping a dramatic Round 12 of the all-electric series held in Jakarta.

It was a milestone victory for Ticktum in his 60th start and one that also marked the first win for the Chinese Cupra Kiro team since Nelson Piquet Jr.’s triumph in Moscow a decade ago during Formula E’s maiden season.

Starting fifth, Ticktum skillfully navigated a chaotic race punctuated by a late Safety Car and two Full Course Yellows. The former Red Bull junior seized the lead on Lap 29, overtaking polesitter Jake Dennis during the second round of ATTACK MODE activations.

Ticktum then held off Mahindra’s Edo Mortara over the final four laps in a thrilling sprint to secure the victory. Mortara finished second, while Andretti’s Nico Mueller claimed third, gaining 10 places from his starting position.

Antonio Felix da Costa (Porsche), Nick Cassidy (Jaguar TCS Racing), and Taylor Barnard (NEOM McLaren) completed the top six.

Early race leaders Dennis and Nyck de Vries (Mahindra) faced setbacks. De Vries, who briefly took the lead on Lap 23, received a 10-second penalty for aggressive defending at Turn 1. His race ended prematurely due to a technical issue during the final Full Course Yellow.

Dennis, who led much of the race, dropped out of contention after a pit stop caused by a Full Course Yellow limiter issue.

Championship Implications

The race, which marked the sixth different winner in as many rounds, saw championship leader Oliver Rowland (Nissan) score just one point after a penalty for contact with Maximilian Guenther (DS PENSKE).

However, with Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein also failing to score, Rowland remains well-positioned to clinch the Drivers’ title at the upcoming Berlin double-header on July 12-13.

In the Teams’ standings, Porsche leads Nissan 203-191, while Nissan holds a slim 303-299 advantage in the Manufacturers’ table.
