Mansour Ojjeh’s iconic McLaren car collection goes up for sale

A breathtaking collection of 20 McLaren road cars, meticulously curated by the late Mansour Ojjeh, a pivotal McLaren shareholder, is now up for sale.

The French-Saudi entrepreneur, who passed away in June 2021, left behind a legacy as vibrant as the custom “Mansour Orange” hue adorning his vehicles.

This unparalleled collection, featuring the final chassis of iconic models like the F1, P1, Senna, and Speedtail, is being handled by renowned classic car dealer Tom Hartley Jnr, fresh off selling Bernie Ecclestone’s $600 million Formula 1 car collection.

A Legacy of Passion and Precision

Mansour Ojjeh was at the helm of the TAG Group, an investment company founded by his father and focused mainly on advanced technologies, and was instrumental along with Ron Dennis in restoring McLaren’s former luster in the early 1980s, with the team eventually securing seven Constructors’ and ten Drivers’ championships.

Ojjeh also supported the launch of McLaren Automotive and its Applied Technologies division. His collection, dubbed the ‘Last of Legends’, clearly reflects his obsession with detail.

Each car, except the McLaren F1 – the collection crown jewel – and the track-used P1 GTR, remains in pristine, factory-delivered condition, maintained exclusively by McLaren – a privilege no other collector has enjoyed.

Kathy Ojjeh, Mansour’s widow, shared the emotional weight of the sale.

“McLaren meant so much to Mansour,” she explained. “It was more than business, it was pure passion and it was in that vein that he curated this unique collection of McLaren road cars.

"The ‘Last of Legends’ car collection is a treasure for our family – a reminder of the hours we witnessed Mansour designing each car to his specifications. He had an unusual talent for detail that stuns and impresses, a talent driven by the very passion he nurtured for so many years with McLaren.

“Parting with this very personal collection is not easy, but it is time for it to go to its new custodian, one who truly ‘gets it’ and will cherish owning and caring for it the way Mansour did.”

A Historic Sale

Zak Brown, McLaren Racing’s CEO, emphasized the collection’s uniqueness.

“Mansour was a founding father of McLaren as we know it today. A massively passionate racer and automotive enthusiast and no bigger fan of McLaren. His collection is very special, I’m not aware of anything else that compares with it.”

The sale, managed by Tom Hartley Jnr, is a rare opportunity.

“I’m truly humbled that the Ojjeh family has entrusted my business with the sale of their incredible collection,” Hartley said.

“I had the privilege of meeting Mansour on a few occasions, and his attention to detail and appreciation for the finer things in life are clearly reflected in the collection that remains today.

“Offering this collection for sale would be extraordinary in its own right, but the fact that it comes from the home of one of McLaren Automotive’s founding figures, a man so instrumental in McLaren’s Formula 1 success, makes it truly unrepeatable.”

The sale marks a poignant moment for McLaren enthusiasts, offering a chance to own a piece of history crafted by a visionary who shaped the brand’s legacy.

As these 20 masterpieces seek a new custodian, Ojjeh’s passion for McLaren endures, immortalized in every curve and custom detail.
