Silverstone Festival roars into life with 75 years of F1 celebration

This weekend, the Northamptonshire countryside is alive with the roar of engines and the cheers of thousands as the Silverstone Festival transforms the iconic circuit into a vibrant celebration of 75 years of Formula 1.

The three-day celebration, which began on Friday, promises a heady mix of racing action, historic displays, and family entertainment — but at its core lies a dazzling tribute to the sport’s seven and a half decades of speed, drama, and champions.

In a breathtaking curtain-raiser on Thursday evening, fans witnessed history lined up on the Silverstone grid: one car from the career of every single one of Formula 1’s 34 world champions. The sight of machines spanning from Giuseppe Farina’s Alfa 158 to Max Verstappen’s Red Bull RB18 left spectators in awe.

The front row alone boasted 24 world titles’ worth of machinery, featuring Fangio’s Maserati 250F, Jackie Stewart’s Tyrrell 006, Alain Prost’s McLaren MP4/2B, Lewis Hamilton’s record-breaking Mercedes W11, and Verstappen’s RB18.

Event director Nick Wigley described the moment as one for the ages.

“After all the excitement ahead of the Festival, it was just extraordinary to see all these incredible title winners from the past 75 years grouped together here on the grid at Silverstone,” he said. “It is an unforgettable sight.”

Tributes, Icons, and Family Dynasties

The F1 exhibition in Silverstone’s International Paddock has something for everyone: Jim Clark’s Lotus 25 R4, Nigel Mansell’s Williams FW14B, Michael Schumacher’s Benetton 191, and Fernando Alonso’s Renault R25 sit proudly among the legends. Fans can also admire Ayrton Senna’s iconic McLaren MP4/4 and Sebastian Vettel’s Red Bull RB8.

A special tribute honours John Surtees — the only man to conquer both two and four wheels — with his MV Agusta motorcycle displayed alongside his Formula 1 car.

The collection also nods to F1’s family dynasties, with Graham and Damon Hill’s championship-winning cars displayed side by side, as well as those of Keke and Nico Rosberg.

More Than Just Racing

While the historic displays are stealing headlines, the Silverstone Festival remains true to its roots. Classic racing action fills the track schedule, while music performances and car club gatherings provide something for fans of all ages.

For F1 lovers, though, the heart of the festival is clear: a once-in-a-lifetime chance to stand before 75 years of world champions – and to relive the story of the sport that began right here at Silverstone.
