Piastri: 'It's an interesting dynamic' with Norris

Oscar Piastri, reflecting on his relationship with teammate and championship rival Lando Norris, believes there is "an interesting dynamic" between the two McLaren drivers. 

The Australian driver currently leads the Drivers' Championship on 284 points. However, Norris is just nine points behind on 275 points, having closed the gap by winning at the last Grand Prix in Hungary.

With McLaren providing a dominant package in 2025, the fight for the Drivers' crown is firmly between the two Papaya pilots. The pair have traded victories throughout the season so far, with Piastri leading the charge on six wins to Norris' five.

The Woking-based outfit are keen to stress that their two drivers are allowed to battle it out on track should they come across each other. However, team orders have helped or hindered both drivers at numerous points so far this year, such as in Britain and Hungary.

All Fun and Games Off Track

Nevertheless, Piastri has stated that while there can be some tension in the heat of the moment on the circuit, the atmosphere between him and Norris is calm once the helmets come off.

He told F1's Lawrence Barretto: "It's an interesting dynamic, I think. I think we both feel there's not really any tension. Well, there's not any tension at all, really. I think we get on very well.

"We're building Waffle Towers and doing silly stuff on Thursdays [at track] but obviously once we get on track, then the business starts and we're both very determined to try and win and try and get as many points as we can.

"There's definitely kind of two sides to it but if there's tension in wanting to beat each other, it never spills out off the track, which I think is a nice thing.

"It is an interesting dynamic in how it kind of changes and flows. We've always gotten on well, so I don't think that'll change," said Piastri.

With ten Grands Prix remaining in the 2025 campaign, fans are in for a tight Championship battle at the top of the Standings.

Piastri is, as usual, completely unfazed, and is confident that he can bring home more victories as long as he performs as he has been so far this season.

He continued: "The pace for the first half of the year has been very, very strong, and I think the last few races as well have been very good.

"I feel like I've driven a lot of strong races, and it's been very tightly fought. So, I expect more of the same after the break," concluded the 24-year-old.
