Fast on track, midfield in wealth: Verstappen’s Dutch rich list spot

Max Verstappen is tearing through corners at breakneck speed in Formula 1, but when it comes to the Quote 500 – the definitive ranking of the Netherlands’ richest people – the four-time world champion is still cruising in the lower midfield.

The 28-year-old, who entered the 2025 campaign aiming to defend his championship crown, has enjoyed a year of late-season fireworks.

Despite being out of the title hunt for much of the year, Verstappen has staged a spirited comeback against McLaren’s drivers, keeping fans on the edge of their seats and pundits second-guessing their predictions.

On the track, he’s untouchable; on the wealth ladder, he’s taking it slow and steady.

Some Catching Up to Do

Verstappen’s racing success has translated into serious financial gains. He first appeared on the Quote 500 in 2022 with a net worth of €120 million. But since then, his fortune has steadily accelerated like a Red Bull powering down Silverstone’s Hanger Straight.

In 2024, he ranked 322nd – respectable, but hardly headline-grabbing. Fast forward to this year, and Verstappen has climbed to 264th, now worth an eye-watering €260 million.

Still, relative to the Dutch elite, Verstappen remains the youngest competitor in the list and the only sports athlete to make the cut.

Meanwhile, the top of the Quote 500 remains firmly dominated by traditional wealth, with – hold my beer – Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken holding the top spot at €12.3 billion. Verstappen may need a few more championship titles – or a savvy business deal – to catch up.

Interestingly, the F1 connection isn’t entirely lost at the top either: businessman Wijnand Pon, whose brother Ben Pon once raced a single Grand Prix in 1962, sits fifth. Clearly, speed runs in the family, but in financial terms, Max has a little way to go before he’s challenging billionaires.

In the world of Dutch wealth, Max is still patiently drafting behind the frontrunners, proving that even the fastest driver can’t teleport to the top of every leaderboard.
