Williams unveils special ‘Driven by Words’ Sao Paulo GP livery

Williams Racing will take to the track at this weekend’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix with a striking new look – a one-off ‘Driven by Words’ livery that celebrates the emotion, energy, and enduring loyalty of its global fanbase.

In collaboration with its long-time partner Gulf Oil International, the Grove-based team has turned words into art, wrapping its FW46 in a tapestry of nearly 500 fan-submitted terms that capture the spirit of Formula 1 and the heart of Williams itself.

The concept was born earlier this year when Williams and Gulf launched a campaign inviting fans to share the words they associate most with the team and its iconic powder blue-and-orange partner.

The response was overwhelming – more than 140,000 votes poured in, narrowing the selection down to 493 words that now adorn the bodywork of the cars of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon.

Among the most frequently chosen were “Legacy,” “Passion,” and “Teamwork” — powerful themes that echo Williams’ storied past and its ongoing mission to reclaim its place at the top of Formula 1.

“As an iconic Formula 1 team with a Championship-winning legacy and a plan to win again, we know Atlassian Williams Racing means so much to our millions of fans around the world,” commented team boss James Vowles.

“This incredible livery campaign with Gulf has really brought that to life, and it will be a privilege to race every lap in Brazil with the passion and emotion of our fans woven into this beautiful design on the car.”

Gulf and Williams: Racing with Emotion

For Gulf Oil International, the ‘Driven by Words’ livery marks another proud milestone in its rich motorsport heritage – one that puts fans firmly in the spotlight.

“Through our partnership with Williams, we continue to celebrate those who truly make racing matter – the fans,” said Mike Jones, CEO of Gulf Oil International.

“This livery is created by them and their passion for the Gulf brand. ‘Driven by Words’ marks another moment in Gulf’s exceptional racing history, and we are thrilled to see this unique livery come to life on-track in Brazil.”

This weekend’s special livery arrives in the same week Williams revealed another major change – its 2026 rebrand as the Atlassian Williams F1 Team, accompanied by a refreshed logo that nods to the team’s classic heritage.

While the changes look to the future, the ‘Driven by Words’ design reminds fans and rivals alike that the team’s foundation remains intact: a fierce belief in community, legacy, and the shared joy of racing.

As the lights go out in São Paulo on Sunday, every letter on the car will symbolize the millions of voices that continue to fuel Williams’ journey – one word, one lap, and one dream at a time.
