The stars – and more importantly, the calendars – are finally aligning for Max Verstappen to tackle the “Green Hell."
For years, the four-time F1 world champion has flirted with the idea of trading his open-wheel Red Bull powerhouse for a GT3 machine to take on the legendary Nürburgring 24 Hours.
While Verstappen proved his mettle on the Nordschleife last year, winning a four-hour NLS endurance event alongside Chris Lulham, a massive logistical wall stood between him and the 24-hour main event: mandatory preparation.
To qualify for the prestigious around-the-clock marathon in July, drivers must compete in specific preparatory NLS rounds. Until recently, every single one of those dates smashed head-on into the relentless F1 schedule, making an onslaught impossible for the Dutchman.
However, the gates to the Eifel mountains have just swung wide open. In a strategic maneuver that feels like a perfectly timed pit stop, Nürburgring NLS officials announced a schedule shake-up that clears Verstappen’s path.
The second NLS round has been shifted back one week, now nestled perfectly in the gap between the Chinese and Japanese Grands Prix.

By moving the event to March 21, organizers have removed the final red flag preventing Verstappen from securing his eligibility for the May 16-17 endurance classic.
The organizers were transparent about their desire to see F1 royalty on the grid, stating:
“We are shifting gears for the sport and our region,” a statement from Nurburgring NLS read.
“To maximize international participation, NLS2 has been moved forward to March 21. Why we move: This adjustment leverages a gap in the F1 calendar between the Grands Prix in China and Japan.
“By aligning with the international racing schedule, we enable top-tier drivers to compete in the NLS. This move increases our global reach to the benefit of all teams, participants, and the entire Nürburgring region.”
With the red tape cleared and the schedule de-conflicted, the ball is now firmly in Verstappen’s court.
