Collectors from the world of F1 will have the chance to own a genuine piece of motorsport history just days after this weekend's British Grand Prix, as one of Ayrton Senna’s authentic race-worn helmets goes under the hammer at the Silverstone Museum.
The iconic helmet will be among the star attractions at the BUDDS' Motorsport Icons Auction, taking place on July 7, offering well-heeled collectors a rare opportunity to acquire an artifact from one of Grand Prix racing’s greatest legends.
Far from being a display replica, the helmet was worn by Senna during three races with McLaren in the 1992 Formula 1 season – the British, German and Hungarian Grands Prix – a campaign in which the Brazilian repeatedly defied the odds against the dominant Williams team.
The yellow, green and blue masterpiece shows extensive signs of race use, including stone chips, and other identifying marks. Detailed examination and multiple photographic comparisons have verified the helmet's use by Senna in the aforementioned races, with the distinctive wear patterns and markings corresponding to period race imagery.
The interior of the helmet retains its original production identification label marked: Production No A / MAR 1992 / Inspector: H. Takayama.

It also carries its official Snell SA90 safety sticker, stamped with serial number SA 0025979. To remove any shred of doubt, the lot is accompanied by a formal McLaren Certificate of Authenticity, confirming its undeniable pedigree.
While Senna’s iconic helmet is bound to steal the spotlight, the BUDDS' auction is set to be an absolute treasure trove for racing enthusiasts.
