Verstappen manager fires back at Red Bull exit rumors

The Formula 1 rumour mill has been working overtime, but Max Verstappen's camp has finally thrown some cold water on the growing speculation.

As whispers of a blockbuster departure from Red Bull continue to dominate the paddock, Verstappen's manager, Raymond Vermeulen, has delivered the clearest indication yet that the reigning four-time world champion is not preparing to jump ship anytime soon.

The speculation has gathered momentum during what has been an unusually turbulent season for Red Bull. After years of dominance, the Milton Keynes squad has struggled to consistently produce a race-winning package, leaving Verstappen fighting an uphill battle in a campaign that is shaping up to be his toughest since joining the team over a decade ago.

Frustrations boiled over at the British Grand Prix, where Verstappen's afternoon fell apart after the team's experimental rotating rear wing suffered another failure, marking the second consecutive race weekend plagued by the issue.

His race ultimately ended with an off-track excursion into the gravel, further fuelling suggestions that his patience with Red Bull could be wearing thin.

The gossip only intensified days later when Vermeulen and Verstappen's father, Jos Verstappen, were spotted meeting Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko in Amsterdam. Predictably, the sighting sent social media into overdrive, with many interpreting it as a crisis summit over the Dutchman's future.

Vermeulen shuts down the speculation

Vermeulen, however, insists there was far less drama behind the meeting in Amsterdam than many have assumed.

"That was a private meeting that had been arranged long ago," he told Austria’s OE24, echoing Marko's version of events. "Also, Max's sister got married."

While conspiracy theories continue to swirl around Verstappen's next move, Vermeulen was equally direct when addressing whether the Dutch superstar is considering an early exit from his Red Bull contract.

"There's a lot being written about it," he said. "But the truth is, Max wants to finish his time with Red Bull. He has a contract until 2028 and would like to fulfil it."

Those comments are particularly significant given the continued focus on performance-related exit clauses believed to exist within Verstappen's deal. Although such clauses have repeatedly been cited as a possible escape route, Vermeulen dismissed any suggestion they are about to come into play.

"The fact that this clause exists doesn't mean we'll activate it," Vermeulen added. "We could have activated it in recent years as well, and we haven't."

For now, at least, Verstappen's camp appears determined to draw a line under the relentless speculation.

While Red Bull still faces the daunting task of restoring its competitive edge, Vermeulen's message is unmistakable: despite the headlines, the intention remains for Verstappen to honour the contract that keeps him with the team through the end of the 2028 season.
