Alex Albon commits to Williams through 2027

Alex Albon has thrown his weight behind Williams’ ambitious revival project, committing to remain with the Grove-based outfit into 2027 as the team prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

The new deal represents a significant vote of confidence from Albon, who has been central to Williams’ transformation since arriving in 2022. While the team has endured a difficult 2026 campaign, the Thai driver clearly sees enough potential in the rebuilding process to believe the best is still to come.

Albon has already become a record-holder at Williams, surpassing Nigel Mansell for the most race starts with the team in Barcelona before reaching the 100-start milestone in Budapest.

“Since joining Atlassian Williams F1 Team in 2022, the transformation this team has made is difficult to put into words,” commented Albon.

“One tough year doesn’t tell the full picture, and it only gives me more motivation to keep building and pushing together with the factory and our fans to achieve great things. Our story is not over yet, so my full focus now is on doing whatever it takes to get us back up the grid.”

Albon stays as Williams targets another leap

The 30-year-old enjoyed the strongest season of his Williams career in 2025, collecting 73 points and finishing eighth in the drivers’ championship as the team secured its best constructors’ result since 2016.

Team principal James Vowles believes retaining Albon is another crucial piece of Williams’ long-term rebuild.

“I am delighted that Alex and Atlassian Williams F1 Team are continuing our extraordinary journey together,” he stated.

“Alex has been a leader of this transformation project since day one and we have plenty of unfinished business that we are determined to achieve.

"Alex is one of the best drivers on the grid and knows better than anyone the enormous improvements we have made in recent years – re-signing him shows the belief we both have in the direction we are heading.”

Sainz future remains under scrutiny

Albon’s future is now settled, but his Williams team-mate Carlos Sainz remains a different story.

The Spaniard has yet to extend his agreement for next season, leaving the door open for continued speculation over his future and a possible move elsewhere, with Audi and Red Bull most often cited as potential destinations depending on those teams’ line-ups for 2027.

For Williams, however, securing Albon represents a major statement of intent.

The team may still be searching for consistency on track, but its most important building block is staying put – and Albon intends to be there when the rebuilding project finally bears fruit.
