Netflix extends F1 journey with Drive to Survive season 9

Netflix is keeping the Formula 1 cameras rolling, with the streaming giant confirming that Drive to Survive will return for a ninth season in 2027.

The next instalment of the hit documentary series will turn its cameras towards the current 2026 championship, giving viewers another opportunity to see the rivalries, tensions and personalities behind one of the world’s biggest sporting spectacles.

Since its debut in 2019, Drive to Survive has transformed the way F1 is consumed, introducing millions of viewers to the sport through its intimate access to drivers, teams and the inner workings of the paddock.

Its ninth season will have no shortage of material, with the 2026 campaign already producing a succession of major storylines.

Kimi Antonelli has emerged as the youngest championship leader in Formula 1 history, while the battle for technical supremacy among the leading teams has repeatedly reshuffled the competitive order.

Away from the circuit, the uncertainty surrounding Max Verstappen’s future has also been settled, while the driver market for 2027 is beginning to take shape, with most of the current grid expected to remain in place.

‘Go deeper than ever before’

For the production team behind the series, however, the appeal of another season lies in uncovering the stories that remain hidden beneath the headline results.

Executive producers James Gay-Rees and Paul Martin of Box to Box, the company responsible for Drive to Survive, are promising viewers an even closer look at the sport when Season 9 arrives.

"We're so excited to be making Season 9 of this iconic show," they said. "This year we're going to go deeper than ever before into the hidden spaces of this fantastic sport."

Fans will have to wait until 2027 to see how the 2026 season is ultimately portrayed, but there is still plenty of Formula 1 to unfold before the cameras begin shaping its next chapter.

With the championship battle continuing through the second half of the season, the eventual *Drive to Survive* narrative is already writing itself.
