Russell claims his own Silverstone turf with 2027 GRandstand

Mercedes' George Russell is stepping into the spotlight of home-race fan culture, officially securing his very own dedicated 'GR' grandtsand for the 2027 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Driver-focused fan zones have quickly transformed the atmosphere at Grand Prix weekends.

The gold standard in recent years has belonged to Lando Norris, whose famous 'Landostand' converts the exit of Stowe into a glowing sea of neon yellow within seconds of tickets hitting the market.

While Russell didn't manage to stage a stealth takeover of Norris' prime turf on the Hangar Straight, he has bagged a stellar slice of Silverstone real estate to create the official "GRandstand".

Front-row seats for the opening drama

Nestled along the exit of Turn 1 at Farm Curve, the new grandstand guarantees silver-clad supporters an action-packed front-row view as the grid thunders off the line.

An ecstatic Russell could barely contain his enthusiasm when sharing the news on social media.

"I'm really excited to announce that in 2027 for the grand prix, we're going to have our own GR grandstand,” he said.

“It's here, on the exit of Turn one. So you can see all of Turn 1, Turn 2, the overtaking spot into Turn 3 and Turn 4, so it's a really, really cool place on the circuit. It's one of the best, in my opinion."

The timing gives Mercedes fans a tantalizing long-term milestone to mark on their calendars, even as the present title fight delivers high drama.

Russell undoubtedly dreams of walking into his namesake section in 2027 wearing the crown of World Champion.

However, with teammate Kimi Antonelli's sensational recovery victory at Monza widening the championship deficit to 66 points, the Brit will need all the homegrown backing he can muster as the battle rages on!
