Norris’ LN4 Fusion gets green light for F2 grid in 2027

Lando Norris is wasting little time putting his Formula 1 world champion status to work for the next generation, with the FIA Formula 2 Championship officially confirming his new outfit, LN4 Fusion, as part of its grid from 2027.

The announcement, made ahead of this weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix, marks a significant milestone for the McLaren star’s latest venture, which will make its debut in the next three-year cycle of the F2 championship.

Norris founded LN4 Fusion just months ago with an ambitious objective: to give aspiring young drivers the support and opportunities they need to climb the motorsport ladder towards Formula 1. Now, that vision has taken another major step forward, with his team preparing to enter one of the sport’s most important development categories.

The Briton was quick to celebrate the news, sharing his enthusiasm on social media as the project moves closer to becoming a reality.

“Proud to see @ln4fusion on the F2 grid next year. This is just the beginning,” the McLaren driver wrote.

Norris joins an established F2 line-up

LN4 Fusion will be the most significant addition to the championship’s next chapter, with the FIA confirming that 10 of the current 11 teams have secured their places for the upcoming three-year period.

Despite the change in the line-up, F2 will maintain its familiar format, with each team fielding two drivers to preserve the championship’s 22-car grid.

The arrival of Norris’ operation adds a fresh dimension to the series, bringing the backing of a reigning Formula 1 world champion to a championship where emerging talent competes for the attention of F1 teams.

For Norris, it also represents an opportunity to contribute to the sport beyond his own racing career, helping create a pathway for drivers chasing the same dream he has already realised.

F2 CEO Bruno Michel revealed that interest in the new cycle had been strong, underlining the competition’s appeal as a proving ground for future F1 stars.

“We received strong interest from teams around the world for this new three-year cycle,” Michel explained.

“Underlining the strength and appeal of our Championship. We have retained ten of our current teams, who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to providing the best possible environment for young drivers to prepare for Formula 1.”

Bruno Michel welcomes Norris’ new venture

The championship boss also expressed his enthusiasm for the addition of LN4 Fusion, backing the newcomer to make a meaningful contribution to the series.

“I am also pleased to welcome LN4 Fusion to the grid. They will bring considerable expertise, and I am confident they will make a valuable contribution to the Championship.”

With its place now confirmed, Norris’ team can turn its attention to the preparations required for its F2 debut in 2027. The challenge will be to establish itself in a highly competitive environment, where developing young drivers and delivering results go hand in hand.
