Ocon issues statement – denies physical clash with Haas boss

Esteban Ocon has forcefully rejected rumours of a physical confrontation with Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu, breaking his silence after being sensationally sidelined for the remainder of the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend.

With speculation swirling around the circumstances of his sudden removal, the Frenchman has moved to draw a firm line between a heated disagreement and allegations of physical violence, insisting that no such incident took place.

The controversy began on Friday, when tensions surfaced during a radio exchange in FP2 between Ocon and his race engineer, Laura Muller.

The disagreement was subsequently followed by a meeting with Komatsu, although the precise details of what unfolded behind closed doors remain unclear.

Haas then made the unexpected decision to replace Ocon for the remainder of the weekend, handing his VF-26 to reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa from Saturday's third practice onwards.

The abrupt move fuelled speculation about the nature of the fallout, with some reports going as far as suggesting that Ocon and Komatsu had become physically involved.

'A difference in viewpoints'

Having allowed the rumours to gather momentum, Ocon's camp eventually issued a statement through his social media accounts, making clear that the allegations had crossed a line.

"Following the recent decision from Haas F1 Team confirming that I will not be participating in this weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix, I wish to formally address some media reports and speculation surrounding the situation," Ocon wrote.

"Last night, a difference in viewpoints led to a discussion with the parties involved. Whilst I acknowledge that this took place, I categorically reject any reports or allegations suggesting that any form of physical violence was used to resolve any differences of any nature.

Haas F1 Team boss Ayao Komatsu.

"I strongly condemn violence in all its forms and firmly believe that disagreements should always be handled with professionalism, respect, and mutual understanding. I kindly ask that speculation be avoided while the matter is being addressed. Further updates will be communicated in due course."

What happens next remains for Ocon is unclear. Haas has opted not to retain the 30-year-old for 2027, choosing Ferrari-backed rookie Rafa Camara instead.

And it might well be that Ocon won’t return to the team for the final four races of the season.

While Ocon has made his position on the explosive allegations unmistakably clear, the circumstances behind his Mexico City Grand Prix absence remain far from settled.
