Haryanto set to keep Manor drive in Germany, reports say

Rio Haryanto is set to contest this weekend’s German Grand Prix for Manor after the necessary funds have been secured, per multiple reports.

The 23-year-old took the final spot on the 2016 grid last winter after outbidding the likes of Alexander Rossi and Will Stevens through different initiatives from the Indonesian government and state-owned oil company Pertamina.

It soon emerged that Haryanto’s seat was only secure for the first 11 races of the season, namely until last weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix. The Indonesian driver has always remained tight-lipped on his contractual situation, though he has said his management has been “working hard” to extend his spell at Manor.

Autosport’s Ian Parkes now reports that Haryanto will be alongside Pascal Wehrlein at Hockenheim following fresh investment. Motorsport.com’s Adam Cooper adds that the deal is understood to be valid for this weekend’s race only.

Haryanto’s backers will then have until the end of the summer break to come up with the required funding for the remainder of the Indonesian’s maiden F1 campaign.

It was reported over the Budapest weekend that McLaren-Honda would be keen to place its third and reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne at Manor, though the Woking-based team quickly moved to dismiss the rumour.

Other drivers that have been earmarked as possible replacements for Haryanto include Manor reserve driver and this year's Indy 500 winner Rossi, though several grand prix dates clash with his IndyCar committments.

The Banbury outfit could also call up development driver and multiple GP2 Series race winner Jordan King. The Briton tested with the team in Barcelona and Silverstone, but does not hold an F1 superlicence yet.
