Wehrlein ordered to pull out of Nations Cup ROC

Following his massive crash yesterday in Miami at the ROC event, Pascal Wehrlein has been ordered to with from today's Nations Cup proceedings.

Wehrlein tangled with Felipe Massa at the end of a group round dual between the two drivers and careered into the barriers upside down.

Although he emerged unscathed, as a precautionary measure, the German was ordered by doctors to pull out of the remainder of the event and rest.

“I’m very sorry to withdraw from today’s ROC Nations Cup," Wehrlein said in a statement.

"I’d really like to race again and I feel fine, but the doctors have advised me to rest so of course I will take their advice.

"It’s no more than mild discomfort but my real priority for the coming year is my Formula 1 season. So while I’m sad to be missing out on all the action, I send my best wishes to my team-mate Sebastian Vettel and the rest of the competitors here in Miami and I wish them another exciting day’s racing."

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
