The renowned Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles will honour the great Dan Gurney in an impressive exhibition marking the 50th anniversary since the F1 legend's banner 1967 year.

As one of the greatest all-rounders in motorsport, Gurney competed on multiple fronts during his distinguished career and, more remarkably, was successful in all.

In 1967, Gurney kicked off his season in March with victory in the non-championship Race of Champions F1 race at Brands Hatch.

But in June later that year, the lanky American succeeded the incredible feat of winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Belgian Grand Prix in the same week!

On June 11, Gurney and AJ Foyt, driving the mighty Ford Mark IV brought the US manufacturer its second triumph in the grueling endurance event.

And on June 18, Gurney triumphed in the Belgian GP at Spa, becoming the first and only American to win a Formula 1 Grand Prix in a car built and raced by his own team.

Details of the exhibit, called  "The Eagles Have Landed: Dan Gurney’s All American Racers",  have yet to be released but it will feature over ten AAR cars.

Several other machines associated with Gurney's career will also be on display, as well as treasured pieces of memorabilia, such as the bottle of Moet champagne which Dan uncorked and sprayed from the podium at Le Mans in ’67, initiating a tradition which still stands to this day.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
