New F1 owners must reduce ticket prices for fans - Prost

With all the talk about Liberty Media tackling costs for Formula 1 teams going forward, four-time world champion Alain Prost says that F1's new owners also need to address ticket prices for fans

Chase Carey, Formula 1's new CEO, is committed to bringing the sport into the digital age, and working with the teams on financial viability, but nothing to date has been said about making the races more accessible to fans.

A three-day pass for an average grandstand seat at the British Grand Prix is currently valued at £300 per person!

Given that entire families often attend a Grand Prix, the overall budget quickly escalates to unsustainable levels.

  • Carey: 'F1 must grow to its full potential'

Asked what he would do if he had just taken over, F1 legend Alain Prost told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica:

"Lower prices to get into the circuits. At the moment it makes no sense. Because with empty grandstands, everything dies."

But Prost also agreed with the direction F1's new sporting director Ross Brawn is taking.

"I agree with Ross Brawn that we need a project of 4-5 years, with targeted structural reforms in several areas: technical, regulations, communication," Prost added.
