We're hoping this isn't a sign of things to come but according to website F1 Today, a Renault engine apparently encountered a failure after just a few laps at Misano today as Toro Ross shook down its STR12!
The Faenza-based outfit was allowed some short running at the Italian track for the purpose of filming. A bit too short actually as the team could not revive the Renault power unit, but detected an issue with the unit's ERS.
Toro Rosso switched from Ferrari to Renault power for 2017 and has high hopes of moving up the grid thanks to the efforts of the French manufacturer over the winter centered on a new design produced by engine-man Remi Taffin.
The junior bull squad is scheduled to launch the STR12 on Sunday in Barcelona on the same day as Red Bull.
