Raffaele Marciello has been a Ferrari junior for several seasons and was appointed as Sauber reserve driver last winter. The 20-year-old made his FP1 debut in late March when he drove the Ferrari-powered C34 in the opening free practice session for the Malaysian Grand Prix. This was the first time since 2011 that an Italian driver was taking part in an F1 weekend. As for the country’s last world champion to date, his name was Alberto Ascari back in 1953…
