Remembering the Mansell mania

With three wins in the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton remains one victory shy of Nigel Mansell’s record on home soil, though one of four successes came at Brands Hatch. The Brummie’s last triumph at Silverstone came in 1992 with Mansell powering his all-conquering Williams-Renault to the evident delight of the local fans. So much was their enthusiasm that they invaded the track right after the chequered flag and before the cars could return to parc fermé. Needless to say that the ensuing podium ceremony led to scenes of mass hysteria.
