Because Nico Hulkenberg cares about children's Right To Play

After last Sunday's Australian GP, Nico Hulkenberg headed to Thailand to visit the Mae La refugee camp which houses thousands of children.

Since 2016, the Renault driver is an Athlete Ambassador for global organization Right To Play founded in 2000 by four-time Olympic gold medalist and social entrepreneur Johann Olav Koss.

Through sports and games, Right To Play helps children build essential life skills and better futures, while driving social change in their communities with lasting impact.

Unfortunately, the massive humanitarian crisis and ethnic conflicts in Burma - also known as Myanmar - is forcing thousands to flee, and Mae La is home to almost 40,000 people.

It's several worlds apart from the glitzy universe of Formula 1, but the Hulk is more than happy to devote time to those in need of support and compassion.

" Had a very special day with many touching impressions at Mae La refugee camp," the German driver wrote on Twitter.

"Impressive what all the friends of @RightToPlayIntl have put together to give children better possibilities. Proud being a part of it!"

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
