Will Max be stopped by 'the Verstopper'?

This just has to be an outright winner for 'tweet of the week'.

On Thursday, the Circuit of the Americas' posted on its Twitter account a picture of a new kerb installed by the FIA behind the apex at Turn 17 and aptly named it 'the Verstopper'!

Why, you ask? Because the corner was the scene last year of Max Verstappen's controversial overtake of Kimi Raikkonen on the last lap of the US Grand Prix

The move, seen as a clear transgression of track limits, was ultimately punished by the stewards and their decision kicked up a firestorm with the driver and the fans.

With the 'Verstopper', prevention is better than cure…

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
