Ferrari's Carlos Sainz paid his legendary father a visit at MotorLand Aragaon in Spain last weekend to check out Sainz Sr's latest motorsport venture.
The rally legend was among a host of big names that sampled Extreme E's off-road ODYSSEY 21 SUV at the series' first group test.
Sainz father and son are both investors in the Acciona|Sainz XE outfit that will tackle along with its rivals the Arctic, the Himalayas, the Sahara desert, the Amazon rainforest and islands in the Indian Ocean next year in the all-electric series' inaugural edition of its off-road championship.
In addition to Sainz Sr, fellow rally legend Sébastian Loeb - racing for Lewis Hamilton's X44 team - was also present in Spain to test their new machine, as well as World Rallycross champions Johan Kristoffersson, Timmy Hansen, and Mattias Ekström, Australian Rally Champion Molly Taylor, Dakar Rally chargers Cristina Gutiérrez and Laia Sanz, and W Series Champion Jamie Chadwick.
"I kind of expected my father to want to be involved in Extreme E and I saw him taking an interest, so we've been very busy the last three to four months with the project," said Sainz Jr.
"It's a whole new challenge and I see that they are working very hard to make the team as competitive as possible.
"The climate message behind Extreme E is really important as we need to make people more conscious of what's going on in the world, while still producing a show and good racing."
